What material for women's clothing?

Hi,


While shopping for professional/semi-formal clothing for my wife, it seems that everything is made from polyester.

When buying suits for myself, I try to avoid such material; are things different for women?

Is polyester normal/accepted, or am I simply shopping in the wrong stores?



Furthermore, can anyone list the basic characteristics of a little black dress (other than the obvious, of course), I.e. type of sleeve, length, etc.
